Independent market and social research agency Blue Marble have promoted Tom Clarkson to the newly created role of Managing Director within the growing business. Reporting to Partners Emma Partridge and Naomi Kent, Tom will lead the team day-to-day.
Clarkson joined in 2019 from BritainThinks, where he was a Research Director working with clients including Which?, the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and the Home Office. Since joining Blue Marble, he has led major studies for some of Blue Marble’s most important clients, including Defra, Citizens Advice and Crisis. In 2021, he led Blue Marble’s ‘Sink Sense’ study – an industry-first project which used motion-sensitive cameras to understand household water usage and was highly commended for Market Research Society and Association for Qualitative Research awards.
Working with Government departments, corporates and NGOs, Clarkson has led major research projects on issues including Brexit, devolution and immigration during one of the most turbulent periods in British political history. He was previously head of the Financial Services Research team at ComRes, where he worked with clients including the Financial Conduct Authority, Barclays and the Money Advice Service. Clarkson has been a regular media commentator, appearing in outlets such as Sky News, BBC Radio 4 and the Times.
Commenting on the promotion, Blue Marble’s Founding Partner Emma Partridge said: “Tom’s appointment to Managing Director reflects a period of strong growth for the agency – with a larger team delivering top quality research to a broadening client base. Tom has been an asset to the agency from the day he arrived… which was followed almost immediately by the pandemic. His cool head and natural leadership have been invaluable since and we are delighted that Tom, as MD, will be leading the agency to bigger and better things.”
